I wanted to be able to add cartoons to my blog and presentations. And I was looking for a hobby having nothing to do with technology.
I started the course during my summer holidays in Italy. Starting with “Circly Circles” and then progressing to copying lots of great cartoons helped to develop a basic skill to draw.
I ended the first part of the course with the feeling “that things start to get really good now”
The second part of the course introduced more complex things like perspective, putting focus, and, most importantly, using colors (contrast, shadows, etc).
I was very happy with my black-and-white drawings for months and really had a hard time getting started with colors. But now I see how much greater my cartoons look in color
I really love the feedback and comradie of the group.
It's simply awesome to have people take the time and look and even comment on my stuff. It's very rewarding and motivating!
Sometimes I feared that my work was not good enough to share. But following the “share everything” rule showed me that the feedback was way more positive than I thought – every time!
I learned that it's a good thing to copy other work. It helps to learn “to see” how other artists really create that magic.
The cartooning coursereally breaks down complex things into the most basic parts.
This makes it possible to grasp single aspects of the art in isolation. Being able to practice just one aspect really helps to build the skill.
“Drawing is Seeing” – it's a skill everyone can learn. It grows by practice and with the help of a great teacher.
I would recommend the course to everyone who likes drawing, no matter on the initial skill level. The course starts with the very basics and makes it really easy to get started.
My kids love my cartoons.
They keep saying: “Oh, daddy, you're drawing sooo good.” Then I draw with them and they produce stuff as good as mine .
Once, I was doing speed sketches in the train. A kid sat besides me and watched me churning out cartoons at high speed. It said to its mom “I never saw someone draw that fast!”
