You are peachy keen to record an infoproduct.
You are sooooooooooo keen to record some audio.
Or some video. Or get something written.
So you sit at your computer and record the audio. Or video.
But your voice sounds flat.
And that's because you're not used to speaking to a computer.
Or to a video camera.
So you start off nice and chirpy and then your voice drops.
And that creates a problem in itself. Because you have to go back and re-record the audio.
Of course this wastes time. And gets you all upset.
So what's the solution?
You've got two solutions:
1) The get-a-friend-solution
2) The wave-your-hands-solution
The get-a-friend solution is to get a friend to call you. He/She calls you and asks you questions (like a reporter would, over the phone). You answer the questions. Because you're having a conversation, you get normal ebbs and flows in your voice quality. And you get excitement, because it's a conversation.
Doing the same question and answer session in the same room doesn't quite work as well. Because again, both the interviewer and interviewee are talking to the computer—and not to each other. And so you lose the excitement once more.
So the phone is the best idea of all.
Get a simple recording device from your electronics store (they cost as little as $15), or get one online. And get started. Get the recording going, and get it done over the phone.
Now on the other hand, you may want to learn how to speak to a computer. Which is fine, but there are ways to keep the excitement up.
It's called the ‘Wave-Your-Hands' solution
When speaking to the computer, make sure you wave (or at least move your hands). You've seen how some cultures (Italians are famous for this hand movement) use their hands while talking. Well, use the hand movement when speaking into the microphone. Even the top recording artists use this technique to get excitement in their voices. A little movement of the head won't harm either, as long as you don't move away from the microphone area.
Whether you choose to use a friend, or do a bit of Italiano waving, it's guaranteed to take the flatness out of your voice. And give your listener less reason to hit the STOP button!
